This guidance summarises the consent required to take part in a video consultation. It includes information on types of consent, the consent process, who is responsible for obtaining consent and how to obtain consent.

As part of Scotlandā€™s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of the Near Me video system to access appointments for health and social care was rapidly scaled up at the outbreak of the pandemic. Now, a report by experts from Oxford University has concluded that using the technology has helped to reduce the risk of infection and allowed for continued service provision.

Social Work update

In February 2021, a joint programme between the Scottish Governmentā€™s Office of the Chief Social Work Advisors and the Near Me team within Technology Enabled Care, Digital Health and Care Directorate, was established to support the rollout of the Near Me video calling platform to deliver care reviews to care home residents.
