Housing

Our home should be a place to relax, to feel safe, comfortable, and in control. But this is not always the case for everyone.

Digital technologies offer potential to enable people of all ages and abilities to live well and safely at home.

Digital solutions, services, sensors and devices can enable greater control over the home environment. They can help the user to gain a greater understanding of the relationship between the home environment on health/well-being and simple changes that can make this better. They also offer the ability to engage in leisure/learning/communication as well as working from home and tools to seek help if it is needed.

To maximise these new opportunities it is essential that individuals, their families and carers are at the heart of the discussions about how services incorporating digital technologies are designed and implemented.

The Technology Care in Housing programme, which is funded by the Scottish Government’s TEC Programme and hosted by the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA), supports housing providers, their tenants and customers to explore, test and embed these opportunities.

The Technology Enabled Care in Housing Charter, which forms the bedrock for the TEC in Housing programme is a framework of 7 pledges that promote good practice in the adoption of digital technology by housing providers.

The TECH Charter has been endorsed by all key Scottish Housing Organisations. To date, more than 40 housing providers have made the commitment to fulfil these pledges.

The TECH programme has supported these Housing Associations, Local Authorities and independent housing providers to come together to form a nationwide learning collaborative called the TECH Community which meets on a regular basis.
